| The Society erected its first Blue Plaque
in 1953. Prior to this the Corporation of Birmingham had
erected them sporadically. After 1953 the Society took over
sole responsibility for raising plaques to former eminent
citizens.
Over the years the criteria for Blue Plaques had been
inconsistent but now we have a set of criteria which will
soon be published here. It is against this that all submissions
for Blue Plaques are benchmarked.
The current strategy is to erect two plaques each year.
