The City Council adopted a new Tree Policy at its February meeting as a direct result of the campaign to save the 100 year old Broad Street London Plane tree, led by BTfL. We may have failed to save the tree, but BTfL’S actions led directly to BCC developing a new Tree Policy, fit for the 21st century, to be adopted across all departments. It’s amazing that 100 years on, the Society is still influencing and driving policy at the very highest level. We think our founders would be proud!

BTfL were able to contribute to the scrutiny process, through committee members Cllr. Fiona Williams and Simon Needle, and the Tree Policy also takes into account evidence from the earlier ‘Impact of Poor Air Quality on Health’ scrutiny which BTfL also contributed to.

The Policy Report is now available on the Council website.
