To celebrate its tercentenary the cathedral has planned a wonderful series of special services, events, pilgrimages, heritage and mass participation arts events throughout 2015 to tell the story of ‘the church that became a cathedral in the town that became a city’. To learn more about this programme of over 1000 events, visit the cathedral to pick up an event brochure or visit their website. The Civic Society played an important part in the cathedral’s history by paying to have the wonderful Burne-Jones windows stored safely in a Welsh mine during WWII and then re-installed when the war was over. There is a photo on the cathedral’s website that shows the bomb damaged roof and it’s highly likely that the windows would not have survived this. We plan to organise a guided tour for members later in the year.
