Birmingham Trees for Life had a sunny start to the new season, planting a new community orchard in Sutton Coldfield. Pupils from nearby Little Sutton Primary School came to the park around the Harvest Fields Centre to plant ten fruit trees to create the new orchard. Children from the school had also helped to plant 15 large trees in the park last winter. BTfL also welcomed back staff from Waitrose Four Oaks, who again supported the event with funds from their Community Matters scheme. It’s great to see local businesses supporting tree planting and joining in with the children to help plant the trees themselves.
After planting the apple, pear and plum trees the children took part in a fun ‘eco-web’ game working out how different animals, birds and insects could be linked to fruit trees and each other.
