We are working with a group of local and national organisations on a campaign to assess and understand our post-war architecture with a view to protecting our most important buildings. You may have seen the joint open letter to the Leader of the City Council printed in the Post and the more recent article regarding his reply. We have asked the city to actively support and enable a city-wide review of this important period of our built heritage before it is too late. Whilst the response notes the limited power the city has, it does acknowledge the important role Birmingham played in post-war development. Moving forward, we are looking to work with the city’s Conservation & Heritage Panel as well as Historic England early in the New Year to assess what actions need to be taken.
